Escorted USAF B742 causes panic in Manhattan
A US Air Force Boeing VC-25 (looking like a Boeing 747-200), backup for Air Force One, escorted by two F-16s was flying near the Statue of Liberty in a prepared and coordinated exercise and photo shooting session today. The flight however created panic on the ground at lower Manhattan, where offices and homes were evacuated in fear of a renewed attack like September 11th 2001.
The police department confirmed, that they had received notification of the event, but were barred from alerting the public about the event.

NEW YORK - Bildaufnahmen mit der US Präsidentenmaschine Air Force One vor der Skyline von Manhattan haben in New York für erhebliche Unruhe gesorgt. Die von zwei F-16 eskortierte VC-25 kreuzte in geringer Flughöhe vor Manhattan. Menschen auf den Straßen und in Büros sahen sich der Gefahr eines neuen Terroranschlags ausgesetzt und reagierten teils in Panik. Die Kurse an der New Yorker Aktienbörse gaben kurzfristig nach.
New York`s Bürgermeister Michael Bloomberg zeigte sich entrüstet. Seine Stadt sei zu spät über Art und Umfang der geplanten Fotoaufnahmen informiert worden. Das Weiße Haus hat sich zwischenzeitlich für den Vorfall entschuldigt.
