AirTran, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, will begin requiring customers that they deem are too big to fit into one seat to buy another ticket. AirTran was recently bought by Southwest Airlines which has had this policy for the last 30 years
AirTran is a Low Cost Carrier, or LCC with a loyal following. The new policy will start March 1st, 2012. The airline will however issue refunds to those who discover they don't fit and can not afford to buy another ticket on the spot.
